Which Types of Cookies Are Used?
Cookies can remain in the system for the duration of a session (e.g. until the browser used for web browsing is closed) or for long periods and may contain a unique identification code.
Some cookies are used to perform computer authentication, monitoring of sessions and storage of specific information on users who access a web page. These cookies, so-called technical, are often useful, because they can make browsing and use of the web faster, because for example they intervene to facilitate some procedures when shopping online, when authenticating in areas with restricted access or when a website automatically recognizes the language that is usually used. A particular type of cookie, called analytics, are then used by websites managers to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how these visit the website itself, and then develop general statistics on the service and on its use.
“Third Party” Cookies
The cookies of the so-called “third parties” are, however, set by a website other than the one that the user is visiting.
This is because on every website there can be elements (images, maps, sounds, specific links to web pages of other domains, etc.) that reside on servers other than that of the website visited.
Instead other cookies can be used to monitor and profile users during browsing, studying their movements and browsing habits of the web or of consumption, also for the purpose of sending advertising of targeted and customized services (so-called Behavioural Advertising). In this case we are talking about profiling cookies. It can occur that a web page contains cookies proceeding from other websites and contained in various elements hosted on the page itself, such as advertising banners, images, videos, etc. . These are the so-called third-party cookies, which are usually used for the purpose of profiling.
Due to the particular invasiveness that profiling cookies (especially third parties’ ones) may have within the private sphere of users, European and Italian legislation’s establish that the user must be properly informed regarding their use and express their valid consent to the insertion of cookies on their Cookies terminal used.
The website www.somaschini.com uses only technical cookies, to make the services that they provide simpler and more efficient for the user viewing the web pages. Currently Google Analytics service is present, carrying out a profiling activity, but in compliance with privacy legislation and with the foresight of the owner of anonymizing visits (IP addresses obscured).
The setting can be defined specifically for the different web sites and web applications. Furthermore, the best browsers allow to define different settings for owners’ cookies and for those of third parties. As an example, in Mozilla Firefox, through Tools menu-> Options-> Privacy, one can access a control panel where it is possible to define whether or not to accept the different types of cookies and proceed with their removal. To deny consent to the use of one or more cookies, the user can access the Link in function of their browser:
